Portfolio > Sirens

July 2013 installation with Dimitra Skandali at the Diego Rivera Gallery at the San Francisco Art Institute. Installation was made of steel, sound, and seaweed. The seaweed sculpture was Dimitra's.

The steel plates were audibly vibrated according to their natural resonant frequencies, creating music with a logic dictated by the materials. For example, due to the mass of the steel, the vibrations could be felt in the floor throughout the gallery almost as intensely as it could be heard. Additionally, the harmonies were unique to those pieces of metal, and were not derived from conventional music theory.
